About Us

Stokely Creek Lodge is proud to begin its next chapter with a diverse ownership team dedicated to preserving the Stokely experience while guiding it to evolve and thrive in the years ahead.

Andy Levin & Mary Freeman

Andy and Mary, majority owners, have always loved adventuring in the outdoors together especially in the Algoma area.  Andy actually proposed to Mary on snowshoes high atop the Awausee Trail in Lake Superior Provincial Park!  Andy and Mary have four young adult kids and they have spent many years gathering together at Stokely.  Andy is a lifelong Michigander and outdoorsperson who loves to cross country ski, snowshoe, canoe, hike, mountain bike and play hockey.  Andy has represented Michigan in the U.S. Congress, founded a clean energy start-up called Lean & Green Michigan and run the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth, in addition to having a long career in the U.S. labor movement.  Mary earned an MAT in Education and taught sixth grade for years.  She co-founded two non-profits while raising her kids, including Community Bridges, an empowerment program for girls that is still going strong almost 30 years later.  Currently Mary is the CEO of Lean & Green Michigan administering energy efficiency financing for commercial property owners.  Andy and Mary's deep appreciation for nature, commitment to green energy initiatives and sharp entrepreneurial sense will help guide Stokely’s growth for years to come.

Josh & Deanna Plath

Local to Goulais River, Josh and Deanna have long felt fortunate to have Stokely right in their backyard and to be part of the close-knit community that surrounds it. Josh, a skilled carpenter who spent 11 years in the steel industry, is eager to return to hands-on work in the outdoors. Deanna, a computer science graduate and CTO at Insightworks Training Technologies, is excited to guide Stokely into its next era by thoughtfully using technology to streamline operations and expand its reach. Deanna and Josh enjoy a good challenge and appreciate the physical and mental growth that comes from taking on demanding routes and endurance-style events. Year-round outdoor enthusiasts, they treasure sharing their love of camping, skiing and biking with their young family. You’ll find them around Stokely, managing daily operations and making sure everything is running smoothly.

Tim Kunin

When Tim visited Stokely Creek Lodge for the first time, he was impressed by the magnificent scenery and snowfall. His drive from Minneapolis through northern Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan in February was completely snowless, but there was plenty of fresh powder and a big snow-pack at Stokely Creek Lodge; with an extensive network of fresh-groomed trails.  “It was magical!”

Tim grew up in Minnesota and attended the University of Michigan.  He has had a family cabin, without electricity or running water, on Lake Superior for over 50 years. Tim is CEO and co-founder of GreaterGood, which has raised over $90 million for charity since 1999. He is passionate about wilderness preservation (protecting 175,000 acres in Argentina); and canoe travel on wild rivers, paddling over 5000 miles, including 8 trips in Northern Ontario and 11 Arctic trips, many with Stokely co-owner Andy Levin.
