High Voltage Power Lines

Jan.7, 2009

As many regular Stokely skiers know, the high voltage lines coming from hydro generating stations north of us cross some of our trails. I cruised the lines by snowmachine with 2 workers from Great Lakes Power to do an assessment on widening the corridor for the power lines to prevent windfalls from taking out the lines. (it was kind of fun in over 3 feet of powder). The bottom line is that they will work in such a way as to have little impact on our trails. They will be doing this work in the beginning of Feb.

Popularity of Snowshoe Trails Increasing

Jan.6, 2009

A great deal of interest is being generated about our snowshoe trails as the news spreads of their existence. Several groups and organizations have made inquiries and plans to give them a try. If you’re a hiker, snowshoeing is the natural replacement for hiking.

Norm’s Cabin

Jan.3, 2009

Having getting through to Norm’s Cabin early in Dec., lots of snow and the heavy rain a week ago prevented us from getting back there until now. As those skiers who are familiar with Trapper’s Trail, the swamp at Bone Lake always makes it difficult to get to Norm’s Cabin early in the ski season. With Mike getting through the swamp, it should tighten up soon, which will allow us to get a grooming machine to the cabin. If all goes according to plan. we should have Norm’s cabin open next weekend. Thanks Mike for making this possible so early in the season!

More Lake Effect Snow

Jan.2, 2009

Snow and more snow continues to make this a great season for cross country skiing. The scenery here is breath taking with snow laden trees and ample water flowing in the streams and creeks.
