The Canadian Olympic committee named the eight best places to cross-country ski across Canada. And Stokely is the place to ski in Ontario. They want to encourage people to xc-ski as the best way to keep warm, while exercising in the snow and enjoying nature's beauty. We were not surprised to be included, but we were certainly pleased.
The writeup talked about the "excellent quality" of our snow, thanks to the "lake effect," and it noted the "unmatched views of Lake Superior".
It also has a warning: "You'll likely have to stop and catch your breath as these trails will surprise you with their steep hills" Yep. And even more breathtaking are the downhill runs from King Mountain or Jackrabbit and even Home Run Hill that you have earned.
We will miss you at Stokely this winter. Find a place to ski or snowshoe in the meantime, and we will see you at Stokely next year. Stay Healthy--and stay fit. You've got some skiing to do!
