Wabos Loppet: Saturday, March 2

So, what exactly is a Loppet? It's a gathering of skiers who ski from a distant point to the finish -- with lots of food along the way! The first Loppet happened in Vasaloppet, Sweden about 500 years ago. The Stokely Loppet has been popular for over 30 years. It starts with a train ride from Sault Ste Marie to Wabos, where you disembark and ski 27 km back to Stokely. There are several stops with food along the way. At the end of the day there will be a party in the Day Skiers cabin where Rusty McArthy will play his guitar, while you gather around a banquet of food. This can be a race if you wish to compete against yourself, or it can be a relaxing day to ski the Stokely trails and enjoy the wilderness.
