Wildlife Activity

Dec.24, 2009

Animal tracks have been abundant again on the ski trails. Skiers reported that the Walker Lake trail had been “disturbed” by what she figured must have been a herd of moose. The reality is that one or two must can do a fair bit of “disturbing” considering that they can weigh a thousand pounds or more. In other words, where ever they step they go to the ground regardless of how deep the snow is. Our first guests were entertained yesterday by a ruffed grouse. They caught him on film as he went through various motions of fluffing himself out. At the time it was minus 20 degrees C. My daughter was facinated by a bobcat that had come right up to our back step the other morning. A rare sighting indeed. My house is about 1/2 a km. from the lodge on the Roth trail. The trick when it comes to animal tracks is to catch the animal in them!
