The lodge closed for the ski season yesterday afternoon. A new season begins.
March 15, 2010
Spring arrived almost a month early, and although we had to modify our season ending Ski The Lakes event, the weekend was still a success. Trails were still skiable and the snow shoe trails were still snow shoeable. In fact, because the runoff is in full swing Stokely Falls and Upper Falls are very photogenic, which was a real bonus for the snow shoers. Gaylen and Sue led an after dark snow shoe walk along Stokely Creek on Friday night, and Saturday we had a BBQ at Hanne’s House (Dayskier’s Cabin) and a nice singalong in the Clubhouse Saturday evening. A beautiful location, friendly and interesting people, and delicious food came together once again to make our season ending event a memorable one!
As manager, I have come to expect the deflation if not depression that I briefly experience as the ski seaon comes to an abrupt end. The word that I often use to describe the skiing season is “intense”, but when it is over I have to quickly change focus to deal with the many challenges that the off season presents. Grooming machine maintenance, building and equipment maintenance, new projects, and trail improvements are just some of the items that have to be addressed.
As well, Stokely is open for off season business and we already have a few events on the books. Stokely is a great place for family retreats, church retreats, weddings, and conferences. If you have a group of people looking for a beautiful location with overnight accomodation” and good food and want a “get away from it all” setting, Stokely may be just the place for you.
Special thanks to all of the Stokely faithful who continue to come back year after year and do a wonderful job of promoting Stokely Creek Lodge. I will continue to say that you are our best form of advertising. Thanks to the many new comers this year who experienced Stokely for the first time. Hope to see you all again next season!
