Preference For Ungroomed Trails

Feb.3, 2010

One of the many challenges that we face here at Stokely is keeping our extensive trail system freshly groomed when it continues to snow day after day. A number of skiers the last few days have told me that they chose to ski the trails that our groomers hadn’t got to yet because they actually preferred to ski in the new powder. “Soft and quiet” are two descriptives that are mentioned when asked why they have this preference. That being said, Stokely does offer many possibilities for those back country skier types that like to make their own tracks. Doug Pitt, a long time Stokely skier and president of the Algoma Highlands Conservancy is an ardent back country skier, and often takes other skiers along who want to give it a try. Most thoroughly enjoy the experience!
